The Financial Planning Association (FPA®) of Charlotte, along with the Foundation for Financial Planning, is highly involved in the pro bono activities for our chapter. The FPA of Charlotte Pro Bono program is dedicated to helping underserved populations by providing free, no strings attached, objective financial planning services to eligible individuals and families through the programs it offers.

 

FPA Charlotte member volunteers have been engaged selflessly in pro bono activities since the profession began.  Some of the benefactors of our Pro Bono program include:

 

  • Charlotte Works: FPA Charlotte will provide pro bono financial planning services to Charlotte Work’s qualified employees in their efforts to build financial stability through goal setting, budget debt and credit management, risk management and other financial planning tools.
  • Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont: FPA Charlotte provides pro bono financial planning services to Goodwill’s qualified employees in their efforts to build financial stability through goal setting, budget and credit management, risk management and other financial planning tools.
  • UNC-Charlotte Employee Benefits Fair: FPA Charlotte provides annual seminars.
  • Habitat for Humanity, Cabarrus County: FPA Charlotte worked over a 3 month period with Habitat Cabarrus  to assist in its efforts to build financial stability, and advance the mission of building decent, affordable housing for those in need in the community.
  • Community Financial Health Clinic: FPA Charlotte provided financial literacy and education.
  • AME Zion Church: FPA Charlotte provided Effective Budgeting and Fundamentals of Investing tools.
  • NC Department of State Treasurer: FPA Charlotte assisted qualified teachers in distressed public school zone in efforts to build financial stability through goal setting, budgeting, debt and credit management, risk management and other financial planning tools.
  • Charlotte Housing Authority: FPA Charlotte has provided a series of workshops on financial literacy and one-on-one concealing.
  • Junior Achievement: FPA Charlotte has facilitated many BizTown Days.
  • CharlotteSaves: FPA Charlotte has facilitated many workshops improving financial literacy for both teens and adults.

 

 

In addition to our local Pro Bono activities, many volunteers also serve with the “FPA Ask-A-Planner” program (https://www.fpanet.org/AskaPlanner/FAQ/ ).

FPA of Charlotte Receives Proclamation from Mayor Foxx

 

Congratulations to Yvette Mills, Director of Pro Bono who was recognized by the City of Charlotte and Mayor Anthony R Foxx, for her tireless work in serving others on behalf of our chapter. Her committee’s work, in connection with “The United States Conference of Mayors’ National DollarWise Campaign” was spotlighted at the October 2012 City Council meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
 
Coordinated with our Financial Planning Awareness month, “DollarWise emphasizes the fact that personal financial literacy is essential . . . to meeting life goals, such as buying a home, paying for college, or achieving a secure retirement.” Accepting the award with Yvette were other FPA Board Members Jolly Chien, Lynn Davidson, and Peter Miller
