FPA Charlotte’s
Biennial Ethics Session

Tuesday, May 4
Great Wolf Lodge near Concord Mills
8:30 a.m – 4:00 p.m.

6 insurance hours for N.C. and S.C., including the required 3 required ethics hours;
5 CFP® hours, including the required 2 ethics hours.
*** AND HOT NEWS: N.C. INSURANCE LICENSEES MAY QUALIFY FOR
2 ADDITIONAL INSURANCE HOURS (See below) ***

We’re using case-study discussion formats instead of a lecture design. You’ll be challenged in a lively format, discuss strategies with other planners, and even stay awake during CE sessions!

For the first part of the day, our facilitator is Ken Zahn, the nationally-known teacher of all things related to CFP® education. His session will emphasize ethics and cases that have gone before the CFP® Board of Board's Disciplinary and Ethics Commission.. We’ll break for lunch (included in your registration fee) and a time of networking. For the second part of the day, we delve into a case study of a fictional Carolinas family which faces what we might call some unusual financial challenges. See how your planning solutions match the solutions of other planners.

Register now at www.fpacharlotte.org. You MUST on-line register by April 30. No registration will be accepted after that date. We expect a big crowd and seating may be limited. Cost is $65 for FPA members and $125 for non-members.

About the extra 2 hours: FPA Charlotte has been approved as an agent association by the N.C. Department of Insurance. Bottom line is that any FPA member in North Carolina who is in good standing from now through December and who attends the entire session will receive 2 hours of credit for being an active FPA members (as long as they have not received similar credit from another agent association). That’s a total of 8 insurance hours for a 6-hour day. This will be the only opportunity in this 2-year biennial period for this credit.

The fine print:

·         To receive CE credit, know your insurance National Producer Number, your CFP® number, and exactly how your name is listed on your licenses.
·         This is a single 6-hour course for insurance purposes. For CFP®, you could receive credit for two separate courses. To eliminate any confusion, just stay the entire day!
·         Assume there will be traffic problems, and plan to arrive early. We’ll have the coffee ready for you (but not breakfast!). We are prohibited from granting credit to latecomers. It would be a bad day for us all if you were late even by a couple of minutes.
·         Great Wolf Lodge is off exit 49 (Bruton Smith Boulevard) from I-85. Address is 10175 Weddington Road Extension Northwest. For directions, go to www.greatwolf.com/concord/guestservices/directions. Since this is a fairly new road, you shouldn’t necessarily trust your GPS device.
·         Yes, Great Wolf is the waterpark resort. But you won’t have time to swim.

Please note restrictions for insurance: This is one 6-hour course for insurance purposes. In other words, a participant cannot receive credit for insurance ethics without staying for the afternoon session. (We apologize for this oversight and for any inconvenience. Please direct comments to sentry@carolina.rr.com or call 704.641.2191.)

The finer print:

The 3-hour case study section of this offering is pending approval by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. The 2-hour ethics portion of the course has been approved by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. While the materials for the course on CFP Board’s Ethical Standards have been approved by the CFP Board as meeting the established standards for continuing education, CFP Board does not review the method or means of presentation and, therefore, makes no representation concerning the delivery of this information tothe CFP® certificant.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.

The insurance offering is a single 6-hour course. Course number for North Carolina is C05729 with three hours of ethics CE approval and three hours of general insurance CE approval. Course numbers in South Carolina are 118818 and 118819 with three hours of ethics CE approval and three hours of life, accident, and health credit.
